Winter Hair Care Tips: 3 Tips for Perfect Hair in Cold Weather

Hats keep your head warm and cosy and protect your hair from the elements, but what about that dreaded hat hair? The constant moving of your hat on your head can create some pretty intense knots in your hair which can be incredibly damaging to both the length of your hair and your scalp.

Instead of having to spend hours carefully brushing those giant tangles out of your hair, try covering your head in a silk scarf. Not only will this keep you snug and warm without you overheating while you are out and about, but it will also help reduce static and the amount of rubbing your hair will undergo while wearing the hat.

  1. Don’t Wash Your Hair Every Day

You shouldn’t be washing your tresses every single day anyway, but during the colder months, it’s important that you make sure that you limit how much you are washing your hair to around 2-3 times a week. This is to stop your hair from drying out and becoming more fragile when coming into contact with the cold air.

Make sure that when you do wash your hair, you dry it thoroughly and completely before you head out of the door. Cold weather and wet hair spell disaster for your luscious locks as when they combine, they make your hair brittle and dry, causing breakages.

  1. Deep Condition Once a Week

We’re willing to bet that you’re already debating turning up the heat in your home to keep you warm. Although this is a great idea, the extra heat will begin to start drying out your hair even further.

Just like you may have experienced in the height of summer, your hair may start to feel a bit straw-like and a bite more brittle to the touch. This is because there is a lack of moisture in the warm air of your home and the cold weather outside doesn’t help much either.

To combat this, try to treat your hair to a deep conditioning once a week. This treatment will help your hair to retain moisture and keep it feeling smooth and soft  as well as looking a lot healthier.
