Top Tips: How You Can Detangle Your Hair Without Damaging it

Hair tangles are something that we always thought would disappear along with our childhood – unfortunately we were wrong. Even though these days we actually brush and wash our hair on a regular basis, we still seem to end up with frustrating and messy looking hair knots.

Due to experimenting with random hairstyles, unnatural teasing of the hair and sleeping on it whilst styled, it’s not surprising that we all still fall victim to tangled tresses.

To combat these hair destroying knots, we have searched far and wide for some brilliant solutions. Luckily for you, we have compiled them all in this helpful guide!

Use a Wide Tooth Comb

The biggest mistake that people make when it comes to their hair is using a brush instead of a comb. To avoid your hair breaking, you need to put down that brush you love so much.

Instead of tackling your giant knots with a brush (this will only lead to tears), you should choose a wide tooth comb. This will not just remove tangles from your hair; it will also help combat them happening in the first place. It can be used on dry or wet hair – at least once a day.

Brush Your Hair From The Bottom

A lot of people make the mistake of brushing their hair from the top to the bottom. We can see why this happens as it would definitely seem like the natural course to take. However, yanking the hair from the top to the bottom is actually one of the worst things that you could do to your hair. This is guaranteed to get you a lot of split ends and hair loss for your troubles – ouch.

You should comb the bottom strands of your hair until it’s completely detangled, then start to make your way up your hair.

Use Lots of Conditioner

To keep tangles far away from your luscious locks, we suggest that you find a really good conditioner – and use plenty of it!  You should smoother your hair with the conditioner whilst in the shower and let it sit for around 5 minutes. Then take a wide tooth comb (always a comb) to run the conditioner through your strands. This will make it much smoother to handle when out!
