Hair Loss – FAQ

Losing your hair is never a pleasant experience, and for those who are affected, it can prove to be humiliating, upsetting and distressing. Here at KSL, we seek to help those who experience hair loss by providing support and advice as well as all of our fantastic treatments and products. So, in today’s post, we’ll answer some of the most frequently asked questions about hair loss.

What Causes Hair Loss?

There are a huge number of things that can cause hair loss – some permanent and others temporary.

Stress – Emotional stress can exacerbate pre-existing conditions, causing an increase in the rate of hair loss. Physical stress can also cause hair loss as the body deals with trauma.

Pregnancy – There are many unpleasant side effects of pregnancy; one of which is hair loss. This is more likely to happen after giving birth rather than during pregnancy, and is thought to be related to the fact that your body goes through a great deal of stress and trauma. This should be a temporary problem and hair should grow back within a few months.

Male Pattern Baldness – This is a common problem experienced by older men. It is caused by a mix of genes and male sex hormones. This is something that will happen gradually, usually starting with a receding hair line.

Genes – If you have come from a family with a strong tradition of hair loss, the chances are that you may be affected. This is particularly prevalent if there is a history of female hair loss as the defective gene is passed down through the X chromosome.

There are many other reasons that can cause hair loss, but we’ll explore more of that later.

Is There Anything I’m Doing That Could Cause Hair Loss

There are a few things that you could be doing that may contribute to hair loss. This does not mean that hair loss is your fault, however, as there are usually so many factors involved.

Over Styling – This is something which would only become a problem after many years if the styling involved was particularly harsh and rigorous. Strong treatments and dyes can also weaken hair, so after years of use, these could cause hair loss.

Hair Pulling – The condition which causes sufferers to compulsively pull their hair out is known as trichotillomania. Pulling hairs out damages the root, so after a long period of time, ‘trich’ sufferers will start to develop permanent bald patches.

Can I Treat My Hair Loss?

The great news is that, yes, you can! Here at KSL, we have a wide range of treatments that can help you to get your hair and confidence back.

Hair Transplants – This procedure works by harvesting the hair from another area of the body and moving it to your scalp – where you need it. The great thing about our process is that it doesn’t involve making incisions, so there is less disruption to your skin.

Biofibre Hair Replacement – This treatment is a non-invasive and is performed by a qualified surgeon. The results can be seen immediately and can last for years to come.

Laser Hair Restoration – This non-surgical procedure encourages your hair to restore itself by stimulating blood circulation, cell metabolism and protein synthesizes.
